“Kamala: Protectress of the People” is a CELEBRATION of Kamala Devi Harris’ outstanding career dedication - to, of and for the people - her rich multicultural heritage and her powerful womanhood.
Description of the Elements in the Painting:
Top Left: Her torch - a symbol of liberty and justice – is decorated in African inspired designs, with two areas of colors highlighting her sorority (AKA) pink and apple green (magenta and light green), and her HBCU - Howard University blue and white school colors.
Her head is adorned in a traditional Jamaican headwrap and symbol of her Jamaican heritage - her father. She is draped in a sari - a symbol of her East Indian heritage - her mother, with an area of African fabric designs - her African descent and birth in America.
Both her first name Kamala and middle name Devi are the names of revered Hindu Goddesses, and the meaning of her middle name - Devi - is goddess.
